Nancy Nabil Ajram is a multi-platinum Lebanese singer and Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
Considered one of the best-selling artists in Arabic pop history, Nancy has released 10 studio albums to date. Her music has consistently topped charts across the MENA region for over two decades. She is also the only Arabic artist to appear on the US Billboard Dance chart with an Arabic language song. Widely regarded as the Arabic pop icon of this era, Nancy was described on The Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the most influential personalities of the Middle East, and was recently dubbed by Spotify as the “Queen of Arabic Pop.”
Nancy Ajram was born to Nabil Ajram and Rimonda Aoun on May 16, 1983, in Achrafieh, a district in Beirut, Lebanon.
In 1995, at the age of twelve, Nancy participated in Noujoum Al-Moustakbal (“Stars of the Future”), a Lebanese television competition that discovers solo musical talents. She won a gold medal in the Tarab category after performing a song by Umm Kulthum.
She studied music under the guidance of renowned Lebanese musicians. Though under 18 at the time, Nancy was accepted into the Syndicate of Professional Artists in Lebanon. Her early singles included “Hobbak Allam Albi el Gheere” by Abdo Mounzer and “Oulha Kelma Ala Shani.”
At 15, she released her debut album Mihtagalak (“I Need You”) in 1998, followed by Sheel Oyoonak Anni (“Stop Staring”) in 2000, which achieved wider recognition and success.
In September 2008, Nancy married Dr. Fadi El-Hachem after a three-year relationship. The wedding was an intimate affair attended by close friends and family. Nancy remained active during her pregnancy, filming “Lamset Eid” and her first Sony Ericsson commercial, participating in concerts, and even receiving her first World Music Award while expecting.
On May 16, 2009, she gave birth to her first daughter, Mila. That same day, Nancy released a heartfelt song for her, titled “Ya Rab Tekbar Mila” (“I Pray That Mila Grows Up”). A Rotana Magazine survey voted her the “Most Beautiful Mom” of 2009. She chose to keep Mila’s photos private until their exclusive joint appearance on the cover of Prestige magazine.
In October 2010, shortly after releasing her seventh studio album, Nancy announced her second pregnancy. During this time, she filmed the music videos for “Sheikh El Shabab” and “Ya Kether.” Her second daughter, Ella, was born on April 23, 2011, and was also honored with a song: “Hadri Le’Abik.” Both Mila and Ella appeared in Nancy’s popular children’s music video, “Ya Banat.”
In August 2018, Nancy revealed her third pregnancy through an Instagram post featuring her daughters holding boards with the message: “We are going to be big sisters.” During this time, she filmed the smash hit single “Badna Nwalee ElJaw,” performed during the US and Europe tour, and appeared on the cover of Vogue Arabia. Her third daughter, Lya, was born on January 30, 2019, and was also celebrated with a song dedicated in her name.
